RIP Mindy 2007 – 31 July 2022
Mindy crossed the rainbow bridge on Sunday afternoon 31 July 2022 surrounded by her caregivers who loved and cared for her since she was a kitten till her last drawn breath. She was 15 years old.
The last two weeks of her life was filled with so much tenderness and consideration that she settled in very quickly with her fosterers and enjoyed being part of the family. The family dog played an important ambassadorial role ensuring Mindy felt safe with the humans.
Mindy quickly learnt how to use the litter box and explored the different levels of her catio including the hammock which I’m sure provided a surreal experience for her suspended in the air for the first time in her life.
She trained her new humans to respond well to her needs and her eyes conveyed the strength of her will to connect with them even as she slowly transitioned out of her earthly body. She enjoyed watching TV, listening to music, just being with her humans and most importantly grooming them.
And when her humans started to worry and wonder if she needed assistance to cross over, Mindy chose to leave her body with as little fuss as possible so they wouldn’t have to carry that burden any longer.
Mindy was our oldest community cat at Blk 2 and she was blessed to have lived well both as a community cat and as a beloved home cat at the end of her earthly journey.
When Mindy’s feline sibling Panther passed away at a very young age, Mindy kept to herself and shied away from other cats. Instead, she made friends with different dogs over the years. Her last favourite canine friend ended up becoming her adopted sister. The universe truly has a beautiful way of weaving the fabric of life and bringing a community closer together through our animals.
Thank you Mindy for opening our hearts and minds in breaking down limiting beliefs that senior community cats aren’t able to settle into a loving home environment easily. She ate a mix of raw fresh and commercial wet food which we believe helped keep her well for the longest time outside. She had an amazing set of strong healthy white teeth. She had good bones and the prettiest eyes. She looked amazing at 15.
When it was time for her to go, the process was fast and she did not suffer for long. I am so grateful to her fosterers for journeying with her till the end. Death is not an easy topic to discuss openly and her fosterers did their best to provide the best care possible to help her transition out of her body. She is now pain free and with her feline sister Panther and her other canine friends Bear, Betty and Curio.
Mindy was deeply loved by her fosterers, who gave her a beautiful private cremation service that was witnessed by 5 generations of her caregivers, allowing the volunteers to come together as a community to remember Mindy and strengthen our bonds of friendship. Not many community cats have this privilege and it feels right that it would be Mindy who was blessed to have this honour to represent the love we have for all our community cats.
On behalf of all our volunteers, Heartfelt gratitude to both the kind resident who generously loaned us the multi-tier cage/catio that enabled us to safely house Mindy, and Mindy’s fosterers for opening their home and hearts by giving her a warm loving home to retire in, to live out the last two weeks of her life surrounded by an abundance of love.
